Set up card limits

Maintaining control over your software spend is essential for effective financial planning. Cledara allows you to set specific card limits to ensure your payments never exceed your desired threshold.

Card limits act as hard restrictions. If a transaction exceeds the set limit for a given period, the payment will be proactively blocked.

Application budget and card limit are independent features.

Application budget

Used for financial planning and forecasting expectations. It does not restrict the actual amount that can be processed.

Card Limit

Used for payment control. This is a strict limit that determines the maximum amount a card can spend.

Set up limit frequency

When setting a limit, you must select a limit frequency. This determines the period after which your card's spending capacity resets.

If a new payment would cause the card to go over its limit for that period, the transaction will be declined.

Edit your card limit

Each time you edit a card limit, the limit resets.

When you update a card limit, the spending tracker for that period starts over immediately. This means any previous transactions made during the current period are no longer counted against the new limit you have just set.

Example:

Your card has a $100 monthly limit, and you have already spent the full $100.

You then edit the limit to $150.

Because the limit resets upon editing, the card is now eligible to spend an additional $150 for the remainder of that period, regardless of the $100 already spent.

FAQs

What happens if I don't set a card limit?

If No limit is selected, payments will be approved as long as you have sufficient available balance on your account.

Do card limits affect how much I can spend on other applications?

No. Card limits are payment controls and do not block that amount from your credit limit.

In other words, setting a card limit of $100 does not reserve $100 from your available balance for the application.

Will I be notified of a failure due to card limit?

Yes. If a payment fails because a limit has been reached:

  • You receive an email notification
  • You can see the decline reason in the application's Payments tab
